Football Gameplay and Olympic Football Tickets

Football is played in accordance with a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game. The game is played using a spherical ball, known as the football. Two teams of eleven players each compete to get the ball into the other team's goal between the posts and under the bar, thereby scoring a goal. The team that has scored more goals at the end of the game is the winner; if both teams have scored an equal number of goals then the game is a draw. Each team is led by a captain who has only one official responsibility as mandated by the Laws of the Game: to be involved in the coin toss prior to kick off or penalty kicks.
The primary law is that players other than goalkeepers may not deliberately handle the ball with their hands or arms during play, though they do use their hands during a throw in restart. Although players usually use their feet to move the ball around, they may use any part of their body notably, "heading" with the forehead other than their hands or arms. Within normal play, all players are free to play the ball in any direction and move throughout the pitch, though the ball cannot be received in an offside position.
In typical game play, players attempt to create goal scoring opportunities through individual control of the ball, such as by dribbling, passing the ball to a team mate, and by taking shots at the goal, which is guarded by the opposing goalkeeper. Opposing players may try to regain control of the ball by intercepting a pass or through tackling the opponent in possession of the ball; however, physical contact between opponents is restricted. Football is generally a free-flowing game, with play stopping only when the ball has left the field of play or when play is stopped by the referee for an infringement of the rules. After a stoppage, play recommences with a specified restart.

St James' Park and Olympic Football Tickets

St James' Park, known for sponsorship reasons as the Sports Direct Arena is an all seated stadium in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It is the home of Newcastle United Football Club and is the sixth largest football stadium in the United Kingdom with a capacity of between 52,387 and 52,409.
St James' Park has been the home ground of Newcastle United since 1892 and has been used for football since 1880. Throughout its history, the desire for expansion has caused conflict with local residents and the local council. This has led to proposals to move at least twice in the late 1960s, and a controversial 1995 proposed move to nearby Leazes Park. Reluctance to move has led to the distinctive lop-sided appearance of the present day stadium's asymmetrical stands. Besides club football, St James' Park has also been used for international football, will be used as a football venue for the 2012 Olympics and will also be used as a rugby venue for the 2015 Rugby World Cup. In addition to professional football, the stadium has hosted charity football events and rock concerts, and been used as a set for film and reality television.
The site of St. James' Park was originally a patch of sloping grazing land, bordered by Georgian Leazes Terrace and near the historic Town Moor, owned by the Freemen of the City, both factors that later affected development of the ground, with the local council being the landlord of the site. Leazes Terrace was built c1830 by notable Newcastle residents, architect Thomas Oliver and builder Richard Grainger. Once the residence of high society in Newcastle, it is now a Grade listed building, and, recently refurbished, is currently being used as self-catering postgraduate student accommodation by Newcastle University. The site was also near the gallows of the city, last used in 1844, lending the Gallow gate End its name.
The stadium hosted three matches during Euro 1996. Along with Elland Road it was assigned to Group B, which comprised France, Spain, Romania and Bulgaria. The stadium was one of several venues used as temporary home grounds for the England team while the redevelopment of Wembley Stadium took place. St James' Park is set to host some football matches in the 2012 Summer Olympics.
For the 2012 Summer Olympics, the stadium will also be one of the hosts for the football events hosting at least eight football matches, including a women's football match that is the first event of the Games, even prior to the opening ceremony. Hampden Park and Olympic Football Tickets

Hampden Park is a football stadium in the Mount Florida area of Glasgow, Scotland. The 52,063 capacity venue serves as the national stadium of football in Scotland. It is the home venue of the Scotland national football team and amateur Scottish Football League club Queen's Park and hosts the latter stages of the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup competitions. It is also used for music concerts and other sporting events.
Hampden is an all seated bowl stadium, although the ground is split into four geographic sections, officially known as the North, East, South and West Stands. Due to the dominance of the Old Firm within Scottish football and their regular qualification for cup matches played at Hampden, the East and West stands are commonly known as the Celtic and Rangers ends. The East Stand has 12,800 seats on a single tier of 53 rows. The two end stands are up to 140 meters away from the pitch, due to Hampden retaining its bowl shape after it was redeveloped. This distance is almost as great as if Hampden included an athletics track, which it presently does not, although the distance between the pitch and the two side stands is more comparable to a normal football stadium. The South Stand is the main stand of the stadium, as it holds the technical areas, dressing rooms, indoor warm-up area, executive boxes, lounges and media facilities. It has been sponsored by BT Scotland since 1998. The South Stand is also the only part of the stadium split into two tiers, although there is also a small gallery above the North Stand that has 290 seats and access to lounges. The North Stand accommodates 9,100 spectators in 46 rows. The total capacity of the stadium is 52,063.
The redeveloped Hampden has held the top status with the various UEFA stadium categories, currently holding category four statuses. The Scottish Football Museum, which opened in 2001, is located within Hampden. Part of the museum is the Scottish Football Hall of Fame. A distinctive feature of the old Hampden, the press box which sat on the roof of the old South Stand, is also exhibited at the museum. The offices of the Scottish Football Association, Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League are all located within Hampden.  Lesser Hampden is a football stadium located immediately beside the western end of Hampden Park. The ground was constructed in the early 1920s after additional ground was purchased to expand the main stadium. Queen's Park proposed in 1990 to sell off Lesser Hampden to fund redevelopment works on the main stadium, but this was rejected by planners. It is presently used by Queen's Park for training, reserve team matches and youth football.

City of Coventry Stadium and Olympic Football Tickets

The Ricoh Arena  home to Coventry City F.C., is a stadium complex situated in the Rowley’s Green district of the city of Coventry, England containing a 32,609 seated football stadium, a 6,000 square meter exhibition hall, a hotel, a leisure club, and a casino. The site is also home to Arena Park Shopping Centre containing one of the largest Extra hypermarkets. The site was previously home to the Floes hill gasworks. It is named after its sponsor, Japanese company Ricoh who paid £10million deal for the naming rights over ten years. For the 2012 Summer Olympic Games and the 2015 Rugby World Cup, where stadium naming sponsorship is forbidden, the stadium will be known as the City of Coventry Stadium.
The arena was opened officially by Dame Kelly Holmes and Sports Minister Richard Caborn on 24 February 2007. This was after the arena had been open for a year which included hosting a sellout England under 21 football matches against Germany and a full season of Coventry City football matches.
The decision to relocate Coventry City from High field Road to a new stadium with a larger capacity and better road links and parking facilities was made in 1997 by the club's then chairman Bryan Richardson. It was anticipated that the new stadium would be ready for the 2000–01 season.
Permission for the ground's construction was given in the spring of 1999, with a targeted completion date of August 2001. This deadline was not met by almost four years the final gas holder wasn't demolished until September 2002. The original design for the arena was for a state-of the art 45,000 capacity stadium with a retractable roof, and a pitch that could slide out to reveal a hard floor for concerts. If the plan for a 45,000 seat stadium had gone ahead, it would have given the Sky Blues one of the biggest club stadia in Britain. After Coventry City's relegation in May 2001, a number of contractor/financier withdrawals and England's bid to host the 2006 World Cup finals ended in failure, the plans were significantly downsized to reflect new realities, and by the summer of 2002, there were plans for a more basic 32,500-seat stadium in its place.
On Friday 6 October 2006, the Arena hosted its first international football game when the England U-21 team played the German U-21 team in the first leg of a European U21 Championship qualifying play off. England won the game 1–0, with the winning goal scored by Leighton Baines. The name comes from a sponsorship deal, reported to be worth £10 million over 10 years with camera and photocopier manufacturer Ricoh, though during construction the stadium was variously referred to as the Jaguar Arena, Arena Coventry, and Arena 2000.

The Millennium Stadium and Olympic Football Tickets

The Millennium Stadium is the national stadium of Wales, located in the capital, Cardiff. It is the home of the Wales national rugby union team and also frequently stages games of the Wales national football team, but is also host to many other large scale events, such as the Super Special Stage of Wales Rally Great Britain, Speedway Grand Prix of Great Britain, boxing and many music concerts, including Tina Turner, Madonna, The Rolling Stones, U2, Stereo phonics, Paul McCartney, and the Tsunami Relief concert. It was built to host the 1999 Rugby World Cup.
The Millennium Stadium is owned by Millennium Stadium palace which is a subsidiary company of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU). The stadium was designed by a team led by architects Bligh Lob Sports Architecture, who merged to become HOK Sport Venue Event, which would be renamed Populous in early 2009. WS Atkins was the structural engineers, and the building contractor was Laing. The total construction cost of the stadium was £121 million, of which the Millennium Commission funded £46 million.
The stadium opened in June 1999 and the first major event to be held was an international rugby union match on 26 June 1999, when Wales beat South Africa in a friendly by 29–19, before a test crowd of 29,000. With total seating capacity of 72,500, it is the third largest stadium in the Six Nations Championship behind the Stade de France and Twickenham, which is the largest. It is also the second largest stadium in the world with a fully retractable roof and was the second stadium in Europe to have this feature.
Until 1969, Cardiff RFC and Wales both played their home matches on the same pitch at Cardiff Arms Park, but all this changed in the 1969–70 season. As a result of an agreement between Cardiff Athletic Club and the WRU, the National Stadium project had established that a new stadium for international matches and events was required, with Cardiff RFC moving to a new purpose built stadium on the original cricket ground at the site of the former Cardiff Arms Park stadium. By 7 April 1984 the National Stadium was officially opened. However in 1994, a redevelopment committee was set up to consider redeveloping the National Stadium, and by 1995 the WRU had been chosen to host the 1999 Rugby World Cup.
For the 2012 Summer Olympics, the stadium will also be one of the hosts for the football events hosting at least eight football matches, including a women's football match that is the first event of the Games, even prior to the opening ceremony. Football construction and Olympic Football Tickets

The four main components of a Football ball are the cover, the stitching, the lining and the bladder.  Understanding these components and their options will help you in choosing the perfect ball to meet your playing and quality needs. The surface of Football balls or coverings are made up from synthetic leather and not full grain leather as used in the past because leather has a tendency to absorb water causing the ball to become very heavy. Synthetic leather is typically made from PU and PVC.
There are many variations of synthetic leather used in the construction of Football balls. They range from AI-2000, Japanese Teijin Cordley, Microfiber, English Porvair, Korean Ducksung, Leather Art Pakistan Synthetic Leather, and PVC. Best Football balls used in competition and by professionals are produced by using AI-2000, Cordley, Ducksung and Micro fiber or other types of PU synthetic leather. Promotional Football balls or practice balls are usually constructed with Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) or rubber molded or stitched covers. Material thickness plays a vital part in the quality of hand-sewn Football balls. Multiple layers of lining are placed between the cover and the bladder. These layers are composed of polyester and/or cotton bonded together to give the ball strength, structure and bounce. Professional Football balls usually have four or more layers of lining. Promotional or practice balls are often constructed with less layers of lining. The lining helps the ball retain its shape and bounce over the life of the ball.
Many Football balls include a foam layer for added cushioning and ball control. The bladder in a Football ball holds the air. Bladders are usually made from latex or butyl. Compared to latex bladders, butyl bladders retain air for longer periods of time. Latex bladders tend to provide better surface tension. However; butyl bladders offer the excellent combination of contact quality and air retention. Futsal ball bladders are filled with foam to limit the bouncing capability of the ball since they are used on hard flooring.
Most balls use butyl valves for air retention, with higher end balls using a silicone-treated valve for superior performance.  Silicone treated valves are used on some balls for smooth insertion of the inflating needle and added protection from air loss. When you first receive a ball, a good idea is to put a few drops of silicon oil in the valve.  This will provide easier needle insertion and better air retention.

International Competition and Football Tickets

The major international competition in football is the World Cup, organized by FIFA. This competition takes place over a four-year period. More than 190 national teams compete in qualifying tournaments within the scope of continental confederations for a place in the finals. The finals tournament, which is held every four years, involves 32 national teams competing over a four-week period. The most recent tournament, the 2010 FIFA World Cup, was held in South Africa from 11 June to 11 July.
There has been a football tournament at every Summer Olympic Games since 1900, except at the 1932 games in Los Angeles. Before the inception of the World Cup, the Olympics especially during the 1920s had the same status as the World Cup. Originally, the event was for amateurs only, since the 1984 Summer Olympics professional players have been permitted, albeit with certain restrictions which prevent countries from fielding their strongest sides. Currently, the Olympic men's tournament is played at Under 23 level. In the past the Olympics have allowed a restricted number of over-age players per team; but that practice ceased in the 2008 Olympics. A women's tournament was added in 1996; in contrast to the men's event, full international sides without age restrictions play the women's Olympic tournament.
After the World Cup, the most important international football competitions are the continental championships, which are organized by each continental confederation and contested between national teams. These are the European Championship, the Copa America, African Cup of Nations, the Asian Cup, the CONCACAF Gold Cup and the OFC Nations Cup. The FIFA Confederations Cup is contested by the winners of all 6 continental championships, the current FIFA World Cup champions and the country which is hosting the Confederations Cup. This is generally regarded as a warm up tournament for the upcoming FIFA World Cup and does not carry the same prestige as the World Cup itself. The most prestigious competitions in club football are the respective continental championships, which are generally contested between national champions, for example the UEFA Champions League in Europe and the Copa Liberators de America in South America. The winners of each continental competition contest the FIFA Club World Cup.

Olympic Football Pitch and Football Tickets

Laws were formulated in England, and were initially administered solely by the four British football associations within IFAB, the standard dimensions of a football pitch were originally expressed in imperial units. The Laws now express dimensions with approximate metric equivalents followed by traditional units in brackets, though popular use tends to continue to use traditional units in English speaking countries with a relatively recent history of metrication or only partial metrication, such as Britain.
The length of the pitch for international adult matches is in the range of 100–110 m and the width is in the range of 64–75 m. Fields for non international matches may be 90–120 m length and 45–90 m in width, provided that the pitch does not become square. Although in 2008, the IFAB initially approved a fixed size of 105 m long and 68 m wide as a standard pitch dimension for international matches, this decision was later put on hold and was never actually implemented.  The longer boundary lines are touchlines, while the shorter boundaries are goal lines. A rectangular goal is positioned at the middle of each goal line. The inner edges of the vertical goal posts must be 7.32 m apart, and the lower edge of the horizontal crossbar supported by the goal posts must be 2.44 m above the ground. Nets are usually placed behind the goal, but are not required by the Laws.
In front of each goal is an area known as the penalty area. This area is marked by the goal line, two lines starting on the goal line 16.5 m from the goalposts and extending 16.5 m into the pitch perpendicular to the goal line, and a line joining them. This area has a number of functions, the most prominent being to mark where the goalkeeper may handle the ball and where a penalty foul by a member of the defending team becomes punishable by a penalty kick. Other markings define the position of the ball or players at kick-offs, goal kicks, penalty kicks and corner kicks.

Overview of Football for Olympic 2012

The International Olympic Committee awarded the 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games to London on 6 July 2005. Six years later, preparations are in full swing and the city is awash with talk of tickets and events. The last time London hosted the event was in 1948, when the Games resumed after a 12 year hiatus due to World War II. The principal venue that year was Wembley Stadium, where some 85,000 spectators left thoughts of post-war rationing and economic instability behind to enjoy a splendid sporting extravaganza in glorious weather. How fitting therefore, that over 60 years later the Games should return, and not only to London but to Wembley Stadium in its magnificent new guise.
In 1948, Great Britain won bronze in the Football competition with a team managed by Manchester United’s Sir Matt Busby. For London 2012, Stuart Peace and Hope Powell will coach Great Britain's men's and women's Olympic football teams. With the men’s competition limited to fewer than 23s, plus a total of three older players permitted per team and talk of David Beckham eager to participate, the prospect of what lies ahead is simply mouth-watering. Add to that the global talent on show, and one starts to get a sense of how truly special such an event might be. Great Britain's men's team begins their London 2012 campaign at Old Trafford on Thursday 26 July, followed by Wembley Stadium on Sunday 29 July and the Millennium Stadium on Wednesday 1 August. The women's team will begin the tournament on Wednesday 25 July - the first day of Olympic action - at the Millennium Stadium - followed by Saturday 28 July at the same venue. Their final group stage match will take place on Tuesday 31 July at Wembley Stadium. With preliminary matches, as well as quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals for both men and women, the London 2012 Olympic Football tournament at Wembley Stadium provides a chance to see the world’s best battle it out for that most illustrious of prizes: an Olympic Gold medal.

Olympic Football and Football Tickets

Olympics Football 2012 is scheduled to be held in London and several other cities in the United Kingdom, from 25 July to 11 August. The finals will be played at Wembley Stadium. Associations affiliated with FIFA are invited to send their full women's national teams and men's U-23 teams to participate. Men's teams are allowed to augment their squad with three players over the age of 23. 504footballers are expected to compete for two sets of gold medals.
For these games, the men will compete in a 16 team tournament, and the women in a 12 team tournament. Football preliminaries will actually commence two days before the Opening Ceremony of the Games on 27 July.
Currently, there are six stadiums that will host matches: The stadiums represent London itself and Southeast England, the English Midlands, Northwest England, Northeast England, Scotland and Wales, leaving only East Anglia and Southwest England unrepresented on the British mainland.
On 24 August 2008, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown caused controversy when he suggested that there should be men and women's UK football teams at the 2012 games. He said that he had approached Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson to coach such a team. The Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish football associations opposed such a move in case it would affect their status within the governing body of football, FIFA.
On 29 May 2009, after last-ditch talks prompted by a FIFA deadline to settle the row, the four associations sent a letter to FIFA stating that while the Scottish, Welsh, and Northern Irish associations would not participate in a unified UK men's or women's teams at the Olympic Games, they would not prevent England from fielding teams under that banner.
But Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and other non-English players will have the legal right to be considered for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics, Britain's FIFA Vice-President Jim Boyce has admitted. The deal among the four home nations is being challenged by the British Olympic Association. Boyce, who takes over his new role in June 2011, said there was no legal restriction as to why a player from Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland could be stopped from playing.

Olympic Football History

Football has been included in every Olympiad except 1896 and 1932 as a men's competition sport. Women's football was added to the official program in 1996.
Football was not on the program at the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, as international Football was in its infancy at the time. However, some sources claim that an unofficial Football tournament was organized during the first competition, in which an Athens XI lost to a team representing Smyrna (Izmir), then part of the Ottoman Empire. Smyrna went on to be undefeated 15–0 by a team from Denmark. However, it is in fact unclear whether any competition took place at all; the Olympic historian Bill Mallon has written: "Supposedly a match between a Greek club and a Danish club took place. No such 1896 source supports this and we think this is an error which has been perpetuated in multiple texts. No such match occurred".
Tournaments were played at the 1900 and 1904 games and the Intercalated Games of 1906, but these were contested by various clubs and scratch teams. Although the IOC considers the 1900 and 1904 tournaments to be official Olympic events, they are not recognized by FIFA; neither recognizes the Intercalated Games today. In 1906 teams from Great Britain, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and France were withdrawn from an unofficial competition and left Denmark, Smyrna one Armenian, two Frenchmen and eight Britons, Athens and Thessaloniki Music Club to compete. Denmark won the final against Athens 9–0.
With Henri Delaunay's proposal in 1929 to initiate a professional World Championship of football hence the launch of the World Cup in Uruguay in 1930, Football was dropped from the1932 Los Angeles Games in an attempt to promote the growing sport of American Football in the United States, but it promptly returned at the 1936 Berlin Games. The German organizers were intent on the return of the game to the Olympic movement since it guaranteed vital income into the organization’s coffers. In any event, it proved to be a considerable success; the German national side was defeated by Norway in a second round match that was attended by Adolf Hitler. As professionalism spread around the world, the gap in quality between the two tournaments widened. The countries that benefited most were the Soviet Bloc countries of Eastern Europe, where the top athletes were state sponsored while retaining their status as amateurs. Between 1948 and 1980, 23 out of 27 Olympic medals were won by Eastern European countries, with only Sweden gold in 1948 and bronze in 1952, Denmark silver in 1960) and Japan bronze in 1968 breaking their dominance. The last Communist nation to win the gold was the Soviet Union, in 1988.
